250 driving offences in the Ionian Islands
CORFU. 25 arrests were made.
Between 19 August and the early hours of Sunday 20th, police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks.
531 vehicles and 647 individuals were checked, leading to 25 arrests - 5 in Corfu, 14 in Zakynthos, 1 in Lefkada and 5 in Cephalonia - for the following offences:
- 3 for drug offences
- 5 for fake certificates
- 5 catering establishments for lack of proper health certificates
- 2 with arrest warrant outstanding
- 2 for noise pollution
- 1 for disturbing the peace
- 1 for playing music outwith the times allowed
- 1 for assault on an employee
- 5 for driving without a licence
There were 250 driving offences, including the following:
- 9 driving under the influence
- 10 speeding
- 2 not wearing seat belts
- 22 not wearing crash helmet
- 1 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 7 without driving licences
- 2 without MOT
- 1 with uninsured vehicle
- 196 other offences
21 vehicles were immobilised for driving under the influence, driving without a licence, not wearing crash helmets, being without MOT and being uninsured.
There was also 1 offence of smoking in no smoking areas.
