Establishment of a single and autonomous Ionian Islands Water District
CORFU. Briefing by the Deputy Regional Governor for Environment, Energy and Town Planning Spyros Ioannou.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Environment, Energy and Town Planning Spyros Ioannou announced today the establishment of a single and autonomous Water District for the Ionian Islands.
This is something that the Regional Authority had been requesting for decades, specifically since 2010, which however did not proceed due to the refusal of official and political actors.
As the Deputy Regional Governor explained, each island of the Ionian Islands Region belonged until today to separate water districts of the neighbouring mainland areas, which, however, had no common characteristics and therefore no common needs.
For these reasons, he said that the autonomous Water District is a very important tool for effective planning and management of issues related to water quality and quantity, as well as for dealing with floods.
Present at the briefing was also the Water Director of the Decentralised Administration Michail Lagadas, an important and main contributor to the efforts of the Region.
