25 arrests and 190 driving offences in the Ionian Islands in six hours
CORFU. 32 quad bikes were immobilised in Zakynthos for dangerous driving, driving under the influence and driving without a crash helmet.
There were 25 arrests in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada and 190 driving offences.
Between 08:00 and 14:00 on Monday 10 July, police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:
522 vehicles and 613 individuals were checked, leading to 25 arrests - 8 in Corfu, 8 in Cephalonia, 7 in Zakynthos and 2 in Lefkada - for the following offences:
- 1 for possession of drugs
- 1 for theft
- 2 for illegal residency
- 9 for driving without a licence
- 11 catering establishments for lack of proper health certificates
- 1 for damagng the environment
There were 190 driving offences, including the following:
- 2 without MOT
27 vehicles were immobilised for driving without a licence and not wearing crash helmets.
There was also one case of smoking in a no smoking area.
Quad bikes immobilised
In the evening an night of the same day (10//7), police carried out checks in Lagana and Kalamaki in Zakynthos. 85 quad bikes were checked and 32 were immobilised for dangerous driving, driving under the influence and driving without a crash helmet.
