Alexis Tsipras coming to Corfu at Easter
CORFU. The Leader of the Opposition and his family will be spending Easter in Corfu.
Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the political party SYRIZA, has chosen to spend Easter on the island of Corfu with his family and is expected on Good Friday.
The news was confirmed to Enimerosi by Christos Moraitis, the coordinator of SYRIZA youth group in Corfu.
The leader of the opposition will attend the religious events of the Holy Week and be present at the Epitaphios procession on Good Friday, as well as the Resurrection service on Easter Saturday. During his stay, he is also expected to meet with party officials and candidates.
This is not Mr. Tsipras' first visit to Corfu, as he celebrated Easter on the island in 2017 when he was the Prime Minister of Greece, and also visited as the leader of the opposition in July 2020. He is expected to leave Corfu on Easter Monday.
The unofficial nature of the trip was announced after the meeting of the Central Committee of SYRIZA, as Tsipras is not planning to hold any political rallies on the island. It is worth noting that this visit comes just a few days before the official pre-election visit of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Corfu on April 19th.
