CORFU. Reader΄s complaint: "The (Water Authority) crews pass by this road every day. The only action taken was to cut off the water supply to the village."

Dozens of cubic metres of water are being lost on the road to Katounes/Agios Giorgios in Kassiopi, North Corfu - a familiar sight for residents all over the island. According to a report from an Enimerosi reader who has been making continuous phone calls to the North Corfu Water Authority (DEYAK) about a problem with a central pipeline on the road, no repair crew has yet done anything to fix the problem.

As the reader reports, water has been flowing uncontrollably on the road for over five weeks now. "Over the past four weeks, I have called North Corfu DEYAK three times. Each time, I had to explain the situation to a different person and hear the same response: 'We'll pass it on to the crews!' Nothing has been done... The crews pass by this road every day. The only action taken was to cut off the water supply to the village."

And while the tourist season is now beginning and luxury homes continue to purchase water from tanker trucks as they do every year, the network cannot supply households. "Perhaps public consumers should stop paying their bills if they don't have water anyway," commented Ioannis Bouhagiar.
