30 Mar 2023 / 21:10

CORFU. 325 in Corfu - The training concerns important sectors of the labour market, where the lack of human resources is high.

The Regional Authority is starting a subsidised training programme for the integration into the labour market of 650 unemployed people in the Ionian Islands.

The Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa signed on Thursday morning the contract with the representative of the contracting company Mr. Zafeiropoulos, in the presence of the Deputy Regional Governor Melita Andrioti.

"We have started this programme for the development of tourism, which includes the trade, the primary sector and all services. We will speed up procedures and innovation in order to empower the unemployed to be able to join the labour market.

Now that the tourist season is starting and the search for human resources is intense, we understand the importance of signing today's contract both practically and symbolically to address the issue of the lack of employees from the Ionian Islands' labour markets," said Ms. Kratsa.

Training in important sectors

This 1.9m programme is funded by the Operational Programme 'Ionian Islands 2014-2020' and is addressed to young people (15-29 years old) and long-term unemployed (29-55 years old). The aim is to integrate them into the labour market in important sectors where the need for human resources is high, such as hotels, catering establishments, administrative support and trade.

In particular, the training includes the following:

- Hotel receptionist/customer service
- Restaurant customer service executive
- Retail seller
- Administrative support for businesses
- Web and app design
- Use of technical tools (e-commerce)
