CORFU. The 2023 tourist season began with 10 international flight arrivals on Sunday.

Hundreds of tourists arrived in Corfu on Sunday 26 March to mark the official beginning of the tourist season, with all the indications for this year being positive.

Ten flights arrived at Corfu AIrport with over 1,400 passengers - the first was an Easyjet flight from Belfast with 114 passengers arriving at 11:25.

The Municipality of Central Corfu, in collaboration with the island's tourism organisations, gave a warm welcome to the first tourists, welcoming them with Corfiot melodies played by the 'Capodistrias Philharmonic Band. Corfiot men and women greeted them wearing traditional costumes, offering them local delicacies and kumquat.

By Sunday evening, nine more flights landed from Bratislava, Brussels, Milan, Barcelona, Warsaw, Krakow, Wroklaw and London, mostly operated by Ryanair, while one of the two flights from the British capital was with British Airways.

High occupancy rates

Speaking to Enimerosi, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, P. Varouchas, who was present at the reception ceremony for the first visitors, did not hide his optimism for the course of the new tourist season, estimating that it will be as good as last year's. "The planes that arrived were full of people," he said. These are visitors who have homes here as well as tourists who came for holidays choosing this period for an alternative form of tourism. It is a mix. As for the season, our estimate is that it will be at the same levels as last year."
