16 arrests in Ionian Islands

Between 18:00 on 20 January and 02:00 on 21 January police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:

- Illegal immigrants

359 vehicles and 459 individuals were checked, leading to 16 arrests - 4 in Corfu, 9 in Zakynthos, 2 in Lefkada and 1 in Cephalonia - for the following offences:

- 4 for illegal residency
- 3 for driving without a licence
- 2 for possession of drugs
- 2 for attempted theft and damage to property
- 2 catering establishments for lack of proper health certificates
- 1 for outstanding court judgement
- 1 with an arrest warrant against them
- 1 for unruly behaviour

There were 142 driving offences, including the following:

- 6 without MOT 16 vehicles were immobilised for driving without a licence, driving under the influence, not wearing crash helmets and being without MOT.

There were also 8 offences of smoking in no smoking areas. Police also confiscated a small amount of cannabis.
