CORFU. According to the Corfu Port Authority Managing Director Spyros Zervopoulos and the Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas, the investor will be selected in April.
The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund's (TAIPED) international tender process for the selection of the contractor who will undertake the project of the construction, operation, maintenance and utilisation of the Mega Yacht Marina for at least 35 years is progressing.
According to TAIPED, the binding bids from the interested investors that have made it to the second phase of the tender should be submitted by the end of March.
The process
The financial bids will then be evaluated by the TAIPED Board, in order to find the preferred investor. However, the latter's declaration as the final contractor of the project requires an audit by the Court of Auditors, a process that will take about two months.
Contractor to be selected in April
According to the Corfu Port Authority (OLKE) Managing Director Spyros Zervopoulos and the Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas, the investor is expected to be selected in April. "The second phase of the tender will be completed in March and we will have the contractor before Easter. The project will start in autumn. However, because it is a very large project, it will require at least two years to be completed. It is a public project that will be carried out by a private individual, who will be responsible for its management for a sufficient period of time. Once the lease expires, its ownership will return to the Municipality," said Mr. Gikas.
The plan
The creation of the mega yacht marina, which will have 98 berths, will be located next to the cruise ship terminal. According to the plan, it will have its own entrance from the public road and its facilities will be separate from the rest of the port.
The recommended facilities to be provided include parking areas, small vessel repair facilities, pumping station and electricity sub-station, hotels, bars, shops, supermarkets, gym and tennis courts, administrative building and control tower.
OLKE
As Mr. Zervopoulos told Enimerosi, the Mega Yacht and Spilia Marinas and the cruise ship terminal are under OLKE's responsibility and management. "No rights will be taken away from OLKE, which remains responsible for the abovementioned and their utilisation," he pointed out. It is worth noting that TAIPED holds 100% of OLKE's shares, which is the company that holds the right to operate the Corfu Port until 2063.
