CORFU. Corfu Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis gave his side of the story in an interview.
After three years without any communication (with just a few exceptions) the Hospital Director decided to speak about all the issues along with three of the five board members, Dr. Kardakaris and Elena Sayianidou. He explained that the other two members Alexandra Kalaitzoglou and Yiannis Triantafiloudis couldn't be present due to other obligations.
He spoke about the attacks from the unions and the media and the political and pre-election campaigns of various bodies against the hospital administration presenting an untrue image of the health facility being at breaking point. He said that this was very far from the reality and implied that there had been systematic undermining by specific hospital employees.
"The picture that some people are trying to present is creating a negative impression of the hospital and discouraging doctors from applying for positions here," he said. "It is also creating concern amongst the public and everybody needs to understand this."
He said that the situation at the hospital when he took over was a "complete mess" and people don't like the fact that he is someone who focusses on work and organisation. "People like lies but I'm not the kind of person who is interested in'appearances'," he said. Regarding the announcements and views of various bodies, he said: "These people should mind their own business - it's a different matter when you're on the other side and have to make decisions."
In response to questions from all the reporters as to whether he will renew his contract, Leonidas Roubatis kept his cards close to his chest. He simply said that he has made his decision and will announce it when he thinks it is the right time.
He added, "I would never have the nerve to apply for the position of director when a government is going to lose and another with a different ideology take its place. I would never do that - I would immediately resign."
