CORFU. Unions demand the protection of children by the state itself and not by charitable organisations and NGOs.
Unions and bodies protested this morning outside the Ministry of Employment against the policy of handing over child protection to private initiatives.
On the occasion of the Smile of the Child founder's announcement that the facility in Magoulades will close, the unions protested demanding that the rights of unprotected children be ensured by the state itself and not by charitable organisations and NGOs.
The following took part in the protest: Child Protection Unit Employees Union, Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Special Education, Federation of Greek Women, Attica Association of Parents and Guardians of those with Special Needs, Attica Parents Federation, Attica Local Authorities Trade Union, Struggle Committee of NGO Employees, Coordinating Committee for the Struggle of those with Special Needs.
At the meeting that was held on Wednesday at the Municipal Theatre, everyone assured the Smile of the Child President that they will support the facility in every way, so that the 14 children will not be transferred elsewhere.
