CORFU. The opening ceremony of the Ionian University΄s new office in New York is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2023.

The establishment of an Ionian University office in New York City, USA, is a new academic development for the University. This development is a natural continuation of the intense activity that the University has demonstrated in the last two years in the field of international research collaborations with US universities, such as the Johns Hopkins and George Mason Universities and the University of Texas Health Science Center - a collaboration resulting from the face-to-face discussions that took place as part of the Pharos Summit 2022 initiative organised by the Ministry of Education.

With the establishment of the new office in New York, an academic and administrative hub of the Ionian University is being created for the first time outside Greece, which will contribute to the strengthening of existing partnerships and the creation of new ones, both in research and education. Based on the experience already gained from existing partnerships, the operation of the office will make procedures simpler and communication more direct. These are a prerequisite for the better planning of joint actions, but also for making use of the collaborations with universities abroad.

The office in New York will be housed in a building given for this purpose by the historic St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church at 124 Wadsworth Avenue, New York, NY 10033, with the support of members of the Greek Diaspora, thus ensuring the necessary staff for its organisation and operation, without any financial burden for the university.

In a statement regarding the establishment of the new office, the Ionian University Dean Andreas Floros said that "the opening of our office in New York City is a very important initiative, a landmark in the Ionian University's history. Our university is a pioneer once again, creating an administrative structure in the USA, which will support all existing and future synergies with American academic institutions.

The Ionian University is now outward-looking and even though it is a small university, it can plan and develop important and mutually beneficial synergies at an international level.

We would like to thank both the Greek Orthodox Church and the members of the Greek Diaspora who, from the very first moment, supported our proposal for the establishment and operation of our University's office."
