CORFU. The Crete Mobile Digital Planetarium is in Corfu schools these days, taking the pupils on a journey to the stars and planets.
The Corfu 6th Primary School pupils discovered the secrets of the universe in a lesson different from the usual. A unique audiovisual teaching experience was offered to the 200 pupils of the school, who got to know the world of astronomy and cosmology.
This different lesson did not take place in the classrooms but in the Crete Mobile Digital Planetarium, which is in Corfu schools these days. This 6mx4m mobile planetarium that can accommodate 40 people was set up inside the school to take pupils on a journey to the stars and planets and explore what was unknown to them.
Saturn, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune "unlocked" their secrets through 40-minute digital film screenings. Thanks to the 360-degree hemispherical screen, created a unique feeling and a spectacular and unprecedented cinematic experience, as the young viewers were completely surrounded by the films.
"It was a great visual experience for the pupils of our school. Those responsible talked to them about the planets and there were dome film projections. The children came out of the Planetarium happy", the Corfu 6th Primary School Principal Konstantinos Kyros told Enimerosi.
They were charmed
The pupils opened their horizons, were inspired and educated about what surrounds us, about the Earth itself and our place in the universe. At the end, they asked questions about what made an impression on them.
What they were most curious about, however, was whether there is life on other planets and what happens to black holes. The planetarium officials were happy to respond to the young astronomers' questions about the vastness of space, with new horizons now opening up for the young pupils about what is out there and some of them are expecting to discover.
