Corfu water supply project: Pricing policy to be determined only by DEYAK

CORFU. Mayor Meropi Ydraiou: "The contractor has no say in the determination of the pricing policy".
The Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou told Enimerosi that DEYAK will determine the pricing policy for the water bills paid by the citizens, in view of the large €146-million Corfu water supply project.
"The contractor has no say in the determination of the pricing policy. Of course not. It will be determined by DEYAK. It's our policy. The contractor has nothing to do with the price," said Mrs. Ydraiou. She made this statement a few hours before the Central Corfu Municipal Council's crucial special joint meeting for DEYAK.

The Council will hold this special meeting to take a decision on "DEYAK's tragic financial and administrative situation".
The issue was introduced by the leaders of the 'Kerkyra na Zis', 'Proti i Kerkyra' and 'Kerkyraiki Anagennisi' parties Yiannis Trepeklis, Giorgos Kaloudis and Chrysanthos Sarlis.
To be put out to tender soon
Following the approval by the Inter-ministerial Committee for Public-Private, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will put the project for the construction, operation and maintenance of the Corfu water supply out to tender soon.
The project includes:
- the construction, operation and maintenance of Melissoudi, Kyprianades and Kalamiotissa dams
- the construction, operation and maintenance of Melissoudi and Kalamiotissa water purification facilities
- the operation and maintenance of the water softening facility in Chrysida
- the construction, operation and maintenance of 212km of external networks, tanks and pumping stations
- roadworks and electromechanical installations
The project has to be implemented in two and a half years, it will be tested for one and a half years and will operate for 26 years. The management, maintenance, operation, repairs and responsibility for any damage and their repair, as well as the responsibility for the proper functioning of the project will be borne for 27 years by the investing company and will then be transferred automatically to the Municipalities' water company that will exist then.
