CORFU. ΄Christmas Fairy Tale΄ begins on Saturday 10 December at 18:00. A huge 3D star will be at the entrance to this year΄s Christmas village.
The Central Corfu Municipality promises to offer a particularly impressive spectacle this year to welcome Christmas in defiance of the times. The countdown for the 'Christmas Fairy Tale in Corfu', which has been embraced by both young and old, has begun.
The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday 10 December at 18:00 in the Old Town Hall Square and will include, according to the organisers, many surprises, events, gifts for children, pancakes and plenty of mulled wine. The programme of events will be announced by the Municipality next week.
However, preparations have already begun, while all this time the Deputy Mayor for Culture Chrysoula Tombrou, who is responsible for the events, is holding meetings with various cultural societies, dance schools, choirs and other bodies that will participate in the events planned this year.
"There will be daily events both in the morning and the afternoon until 6 January, in which dance schools, cultural societies and choirs will participate. 3,000 bags with gifts will be distributed to children throughout this time, which we have collected with the help of volunteers and sponsors and whom I would like to thank very much," Mrs. Tombrou told Enimerosi.
3D star
The Christmas village at the Old Town Hall Square will be different this year. According to the Municipal Councillor Vassilis Spatoulas, who is also an organiser of the event, a huge 3D star (6.5m x 6.5m) will be the entrance gate to the Christmas village.
"The village this year will be very different compared to other years. A 3D star will be placed across from the historic San Giacomo Old Town Hall as an entrance gate from which both young and old can enter," he said.
In the village, children will be able to visit the 'post office' to send a letter to Santa Claus, visit his little house and take a photo with him.
There will also be experienced face painters to turn girls and boys into elves, reindeers and whatever else they wish. The Christmas village, which will have more houses this year that will welcome people until 10 January.
In other areas
There will be Christmas spirit in other central areas of the town as well. It is planned to place a large boat in San Rocco Square in collaboration with the scouts, which will be lit up, while a large 10-meter Christmas tree will be placed at Plakada (Ag. Spyridon Square). The manger will be placed in Annunziata Square.
Festive decorations have already been placed in the main streets of the town and the Old Town, which will create optimism and give joy to the town.
Carousels and other games
The Upper Square will also have a festive atmosphere, as a carousel and other games will be installed from 1 December to 31 January at the fountain.
Finally, as Mr. Spatoulas told Enimerosi, it is being considered to give the Municipality's communities and suburban areas items from last year's decoration, so that they can feel the magic of Christmas as well.
