CORFU. The pupils constructed their own composter so that they could have their own organic compost for the school vegetable garden.
As part of their project to create a vegetable garden and construct a greenhouse pupils at the 'Athinagorio' 4th Experimental Primary School constructed their own composter in order to have their own organic compost for the school vegetable garden.
The aim of the project is show the pupils how organic waste can be converted into rich natural fertiliser which can be used in many ways and to raise awareness regarding waste reduction, the need to reduce chemical fertilisers and how to save energy - a modern global problem.
In this way the school is developing ecological awareness in the children, helping them to protect the environment and develop critical thinking in the face of the serious problems facing society.
These innovation and skills groups take place outside normal lesson times and encourage innovative methodology in the pupils allowing them to become active participants in teaching and learning.
