CORFU. Power cuts are often at peak times for catering businesses and offices.
Businesses in Corfu Town have been protesting about scheduled power cuts during business hours - and very often at peak times - such as today's cuts which are scheduled for 15:00-17:00.
Power cuts are often at peak times for catering businesses and offices and begs the question why they aren't scheduled for times which aren't inconvenient and financially damaging.
Upgrades
"Power cuts are usually scheduled for 'dead' times as far as possible," Corfu DEDDIE Director Nikos Sofianos told Enimerosi. "On Saturday we had cuts from 06:00 to 08:00. We need to bear in mind that work has to take place during the daylight for safety reasons and to be able to see any problems that need to be dealt with.
"Today's power cuts are not from DEDDIE but from ADMIE (Independent Power Transmission Operator) at Corfu Substations Nos. 1 and 2 in order to upgrade the connections in the high-voltage grids. The specific times were requested and it is DEDDIE's responsibility to inform the public.
"It is needed in order to improve the electricity distribution network and we always ask for the public's understanding," Mr Sofianos added.
Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE)
The Independent Power Transmission Operator manages the distribution system (150kV and 400kV) in Greece. It maintains and develops the distribution system in order to supply the country with electricity in a safe and efficient way.
