CORFU. For the first time, the Central Corfu Municipality has demanded the repair of the damage to the road surface caused by Independent Power Transmission Operator΄s (ADMIE) works.

"In the Central Corfu Municipality, any department, public companies and organisations or contractors doing works on the road network will be obliged to repair the damage. There will be rules," said the Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros.

As he announced, for the first time, anyone that carries out works on roads that are the responsibility of the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality, is obliged to repair the damage to the road surface caused by the works.

This is the first time this has ever happened. On the road that connects Pelekas with Solari, the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) has been carrying out works for days to upgrade the electricity networks. Immediately after the end of the project, the Central Corfu Municipality demanded the complete repair of the road surface.

Thus, the company immediately carried out new road surfacing, while the Mayor Meropi Ydraiou visited the road herself in order to see if the road had actually been resurfaced.

This will now be applied in all cases. The Mayor told the Deputy Mayor Nikos Kalogeros and the Municipal Technical Works Department to inform such public companies and DEYAK of their obligation to immediately repair the road surface on roads where they carry out works for which the Municipality has the responsibility and competence.

This measure will now be strictly enforced and fines will be imposed to those who do not comply with it.

The Deputy Mayor Nikos Kalogeros stated the following: "The Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality now has rules. Those who carry out works and cause damage to roads that we are responsibile for, will be obliged to repair them and this applies to everyone, without exception. I hope that everyone will accept these rules, as was the case with the contractor who was carrying out works and proceeded to resurface the road."
