Police presence in Garitsa as residents protest against cutting down of trees

CORFU. The dispute between residents and the municipality continues.
Agitated Garitsa residents are protesting against the cutting down of trees by the company contracted to redevelop Garitsa Park.
The contractor asked those present to leave the site and called the police. The Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros was also there and told the residents that it was forbidden for them to be on the construction site and that they had to leave.
The Deputy Mayor said that there are supervisors to monitor the work and make sure that it proceeded according to the plans. The residents said that healthy trees are being cut down and that there are a lot of faults in the plan.
