CORFU. Ambulance Service employees are assisting with the installation.
The 18 new defibrillators which arrived last week are now being installed in secondary schools in Central Corfu Municipality.
The appliances can be used in cases of cardiac arrest and provide help in the crucial first minutes of the incident until trained paramedics can arrive.
The defibrillators were purchased with funding from the Central Corfu Municipal School Committee and are being installed with assistance from Ambulance Service (EKAB) employees. They have a protective case to prevent damage from vandalism - something that has happened in the past.
Although it is very simple to use the equipment, there are audio step-by-step directions for users and EKAB employees have said that they are willing to provide any training necessary at the schools.
It should be noted that during the summer period, when schools are closed, the defibrillators will be taken and placed in strategic spots in Central Corfu.
