CORFU. The issue of repairing the Garitsa shore road will be discussed at the Regional Council meeting on Friday.
The Anemomylos Cultural Society is expected to serve extrajudicial documents to the Land Agency following the negative developments for the project of repairing the Garitsa shore road from Desyllas factory to Anemomylos.
The Society's Board held a meeting on Tuesday evening following the Court of Auditors' second and final rejection decision in the appeal of revocation filed by the Ionian Islands Region.
Last June, the Court of Auditors had stopped the signing of the contract with the contractor for the implementation of the project, saying that the Ionian Islands Region is not responsible for the project, as the Garitsa shore road now belongs to the Land Agency. The contract was also rejected because the project could not be considered urgent, as the damage and deterioration existed even before ‘Ballos’.
At the Board meeting, there was a detailed briefing on the latest developments concerning the Garitsa shore road and the Garitsa and Anemomylos Parks regeneration, in the presence of the Deputy Regional Governors Kostas Zorbas and Manolis Orphanoudakis, as well as the two former Society Presidents Mr. Mitsialis and Mr. Kremonas.
What was decided
The Anemomylos Cultural Society President Pantelis Kontos told Enimerosi that the Board decided to serve extrajudicial documents to the Land Agency and let the Ministry of Finance know how dangerous the road is for pedestrians, considering them responsible in case of an accident.
It was also decided that the Technical Works Department carry out an inspection and strengthen security measures, as according to residents there are some parts of the road that need particular attention. "The Technical Works Department will inspect the area and possibly place lighting at the problem areas for the safety of pedestrians," said Mr. Kontos.
