CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regions is looking for a solution in order to repair the 500m section that has been left on the Garitsa shore road, as it could cause accidents to passers-by.
The appeal of revocation filed to the Court of Auditors by the Ionian Islands Region for the repair of the Garitsa shore road from the Desyllas factory to Anemomylos was rejected and it is unknown what will happen with the project.
Last June, the Court of Auditors had stopped the signing of the contract with the contractor for the implementation of the project, saying that the Ionian Islands Region is not responsible for the project, as the Garitsa shore road now belongs to the Land Agency. The contract with the project’s contractor was also rejected because the project could not be considered urgent.
The reason why
In the new Court of Auditors's decision, which the Region published a few days ago, the appeals of revocation filed by both the Ionian Islands Region and the contractor were rejected as unfounded. This was again on the grounds that the project could not be considered urgent.
Meeting with the Land Agency
Following the new negative development, the Ionian Islands Region is looking for a solution in order to repair the 500m section that remains to be repaired on the Garitsa shore road, whose condition becomes worse day by day and which could cause accidents to passers-by. Therefore, Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, along with the Deputy Regional Governors Zorbas and Orfanoudakis, met with the Land Agency Director M. Armeniakou in Corfu last Friday. “We will put the project out to tender again. We are trying to find a way to achieve this and we are also looking into it legally so as not to have the same problem again with the project not being urgent,” Mr. Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi, clarifying that the first and main problem is the ownership.
"We informed the Land Agency in writing that we are providing the €1 million that we have secured and the studies to carry out the project. However, it replied that they can not do it," the Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi.
The project of repairing the Garitsa shore road is, however, expected to be discussed at the Regional Council meeting on Friday.
