CORFU. Works are also expected to be carried out in Ag. Deka, Stavros and Viros.

The Court of Audit approved the contract for the required works to be carried out in Perama, as well as other areas, following the ‘Ballos’ storm last October. The works concern the repair of part of the road network, which suffered significant damage.

Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi that the works planned to be carried out with the €1.5 million, which the Ionian Islands Region received for this purpose, concern the areas of Perama, Ag. Deka, Stavros and Viros.

The works

The works include, amongst others, cleaning and reconstruction of sections of the roads, as well as works to make the roads accessible and safe again. Works will also be carried out to restore flood protection and repair the existing or construct new necessary accompanying works (bridges, ditches, support walls etc.), while older technical works that failed will be carried out again. Last but not least, necessary road safety works are also included.

“It is planned to place piles at a depth of more than 20 meters, while we will also make sure of the proper drainage of rainwater,” explained Mr. Orphanoudakis.

In order for the works in Perama to be carried out, only one lane will be available, while a lane control light will be placed to facilitate the vehicles passing by, as this is a road with an increased traffic.

Vrioni-Moraitika

However, if the geotechnical problems in the Eth. Corfu-Moraitika Rd are solved, the tender for the resurfacing of the road between Vrioni and Moraitika is expected to follow. The project has a €4.5 million budget and has been included in the ESPA 2014-2020 Programme.
