CORFU. The first camping period of the Greek Guiding Association will not take place in Vidos Island, due to limited shuttle services.
The local branch of the Greek Guiding Association decided that the first camping period will not be held in Vidos Island due to the issue with the shuttle service. There will be no more shuttle services in the evening, as the captain has not yet received an answer from the Central Corfu Municipality to his request for aid in order to employ people for the second shift.
However, the President of the local branch of the Greek Guiding Association Antigoni Kantarelli told Enimerosi that the planned first camping period of the Guides will start on Saturday 1 July and the lack of shuttle services in the evening is a great obstacle.
“Members of the Guides, who work in the mornings, will not be able to leave. Besides, there are a number of organisational issues, as well as the issue of the transport of supplies and rubbish, which cannot be done without the evening shuttle services.
It completely changes our planning. Without knowing anything for sure, we cannot wait to see when and if the problem that has arisen will be resolved. We have contacted Mr. Melidis, but for now we are waiting to see what will happen.”
Pelekas
The Guiding Association found a cleared property in Pelekas that will replace Vidos, at least for the first camping period and we will see how it goes.
“Because of this, however, we will have additional expenses, as a number of transfers will have to be made and the proper conditions will have to be created, which at Vidos already exist, such as toilets, water, containers for waste, recycling bins, etc. In other words, apart from the planning, our budget is also falling short,” said Mrs. Kantarelli.
The wooden deck
The shaded area next to the restaurant, however, hosted 150 pupils who visited Vidos last Friday. The children were able to do activities and have fun in this area, using the wooden benches that were moved there from the picnic area above the small beach thanks to Spyros Neratzis.
Meanwhile, the former councillor responsible for Vidos Spyros Neratzis has not yet been replaced, at least formally. However, it has become known that the next councillor responsible for Vidos and Lazaretto will be Vassilis Melidis.
Spyros Neratzis told Enimerosi that he has not had any notification from the municipality, after he submitted his resignation, regarding its formal acceptance. However, he has been in contact with Mr. Melidis, who is unofficially considered to be the next councillor responsible for Vidos even though he has not yet been officially appointed.
