CORFU. Corfu Hospital Administration said that the hospital will not be left without cleaners from 1 July.

The Corfu Court of First Instance rejected the appeal for a temporary order lodged yesterday by 30 hospital cleaners, in order to keep their jobs until the hearing of the injunction.

The court announced its decision this morning. The contracts of the 30 cleaners, following the two three-month extensions they received, will officially expire on 30 June.

“Since yesterday the atmosphere was not optimistic. If the contracts are not extended by the Hospital Administration from 1 July, we will leave,” said the Corfu Hospital Cleaners' Union President Eleni Pagrati.

Their legal representative Dimitris Petropoulos told Enimerosi that although the temporary order was rejected, it is positive that the hearing of the injunction was set for 20 July.

The ordinary legal action filed to make the 30 cleaners permanent will be discussed in November.

The Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis told Enimerosi that in any case the hospital will not be left without cleaners from 1 July.

“We have not yet decided whether the extension of the contracts with the cleaners will continue. However, from 1 July, the hospital will not be left without cleaning staff,” he said.

The hospital’s management has already proceeded to a tender for the award of the contractor, but problems have arisen following the objections.

However, according to sources, as far as the direct award to a temporary contractor is concerned, until the tender starts again, the question of the legal limits of contracts per year is raised.
