CORFU. The Brindisi-Corfu International Regatta is now considered one of the most important races in the Mediterranean.

This year's 36th Brindisi-Corfu International Regatta, 12-14 June, was hosted by D-Marin Gouvia and organised by Circolo della Vela Brindisi and Gouvia Marina Sailing Club. Of the 100 participants, 88 boats completed the race.

The Regatta is considered one of the most important races in the Mediterranean and certainly the most important in the Adriatic in terms of the number of contestants and the level of difficulty.

The Regatta ended with an awards ceremony at the cricket field in Gouvia on Tuesday 14 June with many Corfiots, all the crews and local authority representatives in attendance.

The following local representatives were present: Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou; Spyros Moraitis; Panayiotis Varouchas; D-Marin Gouvia Director Konstantinos Karabatsos; the Italian Consul in Corfu Friderikos Valsamis; Corfu Port Authority Managing Director Spyros Zervopoulos; D-Marin Marketing Director Vassia Karavasili and the President of Gouvia Marina Sailing Club Michalis Tsatsopoulos.

The ceremony ended suddenly, however, after complaints received by the Port Authority about the noise level of the music. It ended one hour earlier than scheduled.
