With some exceptions.

From today, Wednesday 1 June, masks are no longer mandatory in indoor spaces, with some exceptions.

The Minister of Health Thanos Plevris had announced the suspension of the mask measures in April.

Where masks are still mandatory:

Masks remain mandatory in hospitals, care homes and similar facilities as well as on public transport. They are, however, not required on means of transport with numbered seats, such as planes, long-distance coaches and trains. Transport employees are also not required to use them.

The lifting of the measure means that therre won't be fines, but it is recommended that masks continue to be worn in all these areas and especially by those in vulnerable groups.

Masks no longer mandatory in schools and universities - with exceptions

The Ministry of Education issued the following statement:

"Following the recommendations of the National Committee for Public Health Protection against COVID-19, the Ministry of Education and Religion announces the lifting of the mask mandate in schools, colleges, universities and all educational facilities in indoor and outdoor spaces from Wednesday 1 June.

The exception is for all examinations (school, national, university, foreign languages etc) - where it is mandatory for candidates and supervisors to wear masks in the examination rooms.

We continue to recommend that parents of children aged five and over have them vaccinated in order to benefit from this strong weapon against COVID-19."

A reminder that from 1 May to 31 August it is no longer required to show vaccination or recovery certificates - COVID passes.

The lifting of the mask mandate applies for the period 1 June until 15 September.
