Ionian Islands police checks - 205 driving offences and 14 arrests

Between 18:00 on 14 May and 02:00 on 15 May police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:

- Theft and burglary
- Dangerous driving
- Violations of regulations at catering establishments
- Drug dealing
- Illegal immigrants

14 people were arrested (5 Greeks and 9 foreign nationals) - 8 in Zakynthos, 2 in Corfu, 2 in Cephalonia and 2 in Lefkada - for the following offences:

- 7 for driving without a licence
- 1 without health certificate
- 1 for illegal residency
- 2 for solicitation
- 1 for driving under the influence
- 1 for drugs
- 1 for noise pollution

There were 205 driving offences, including the following:

- 20 speeding
- 12 driving under the influence
- 12 not wearing seat belts
- 25 not wearing crash helmet
- 4 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 20 without driving licences
- 4 uninsured
- 8 without MOT
