Manolis Orphanoudakis: “The aim is to have the contractor in Garitsa by June”

CORFU. The work to be done will involve road shoring, restoration of the cavities created by the sea and pavement restoration.
The Regional Authority will begin in the coming days the negotiations without prior publication for the selection of the contractor for the implementation of the project for the repair of the Garitsa seafront road from the Desyllas factory to Anemomylos.
In particular, the go-ahead was given during the Finance Committee meeting on 11 March 2022 for the execution of the €995,000-budget project as an urgent project.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi that next week the invitation for the award of a public works contract with the selection of the contractor through the negotiated procedure without prior publication will be announced and, at the same time, the file will be given to the Municipal Land Agency in order for the project to begin.
“The aim is to have the contractor in place in June. The study has been changed and we are talking about the complete restoration of the wall from the Desyllas factory to Anemomylos and not only 100sq.m. that the original study envisaged, as the problem is deeper and needs technical interventions,” said Mr. Orphanoudakis and noted that the project will be completed in a year.
The main obstacle the Region had when it came to the implementation of the project was the exemption of the environmental terms, but it was overcome last January after several months of waiting. Now, with the publication of the file for the exemption from the environmental licensing process of the project, the planning is very close to finally be implemented.

At the same time, full provision will be made to reinforce the existing wall to avoid similar phenomena.
