The Health Minister announced a series of new measures on Monday evening to contain the expected new pandemic wave from the Omicron variant.
Health Minister Thanos Plevris announced the following:
The following measures will be in force in Greece from 3-16 January and may be extended if it is deemed necessary:
Masks
Increased protection masks (KN95/FFP2) or double masks are mandatory for public transport, supermarkets and wherever there are crowds as well as for workers in the catering sector.
Hospitality and Entertainment
Catering and entertainment venues will have to close at midnight and standing customers are not allowed. A maximum of 6 people may sit at a table and proper distancing maintained.
If it is seen that these measures are not being implemented, then music, which is allowed at the moment, will be prohibited.
Sports venues
Sports venues will be allowed to operate at only 10 percent capacity, with a cap on 1,000 spectators. If it is seen that the measures are not being adhered to, matches will take place behind closed doors.
Care homes and healthcare facilities
Visitors at care homes must present a negative Covid-19 PCR test performed at least 48 hours earlier. There will be stricter control over visits at healthcare facilities.
Teleworking
There will be up to 50% teleworking in the public and private sectors and staggered shifts (employees will start work at different times) will be introduced in both sectors.
