CORFU. The only Greek museum in the running for this important award for 2022.
The Capodistrias Museum is in the final nomination stage of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) and is the only Greek museum in the running for this important award for 2022.
The European Museum of the Year Award is one of the most important schemes organised by the European Museum Forum.
For 2022, there are 60 museums from all over Europe in the final nomination stage and the winners will be announced at the European Museum Forum's annual conference and award ceremony, which will take place at the Estonian National Museum from 4 to 7 May 2022.
The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) was established in 1977 by the European Museum Forum (EMF) and is under the auspices of the Council of Europe.
The European Museum of the Year Awards are awarded annually to museums that have been established or upgraded recently and are currently substantially contributing – through innovative, creative and outward-looking approaches in their operation – to the strengthening and progress of society and the promotion of the society of museums.
The nomination of the Capodistrias Museum for the European Museum of the Year Award for 2022 honours both the organisation and Greece. The Capodistrias Museum - Centre for Capodistrian Studies (founded in 1981) is the only museum dedicated to the life and legacy of the first Governor of Modern Greece, which highlights the links between Greek and European history.
The Museum is housed in the Capodistrias’ family ‘Koukouritsa’ estate (a declared historic national monument) in Central Corfu. In 2017, the Capodistrias Museum reopened to the public with a new permanent biographical exhibition and new research, educational and entertainment services, making it a modern museum and an important landmark of Greece.
EMF's annual conference and the EMYA 2022 award ceremony will take place at the Estonian National Museum, Tartu, from 4 to 7 May.
