CORFU. Preparations for the filming of the film ‘Capodistrias’ about the Corfiot ‘Saint of Politics’.

Following the films ‘Good night, Mr. Alexander’, ‘Cavafy’, ‘El Greco’, ‘God Loves Caviar’ and ‘Kazantzakis’, the famous Greek director Yiannis Smaragdis is now making the film ‘Capodistrias’, a film about the first Governor of modern Greece.

For the needs of this long-awaited film, director Yiannis Smaragdis and his partners will be in Corfu from Monday 13 December to decide on the filming locations.

His aim is to do as much filming as possible in Corfu, because he believes that the island of the great Ioannis Capodistrias should get as much publicity as possible from the upcoming film, which both the island and the Governor himself deserve.

For this reason, he has already planned to meet with the Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, since she had attended the honorary screening of the documentary ‘Reference to Ioannis Capodistrias’ (which is a prequel to the film) in Switzerland, as well as the official premiere in Athens, which took place at the ‘Hellenic Cosmos’ Cultural Centre.

Both screenings were a great success and, as it seems, they have made the anticipation for the film even greater.

Amongst the partners who will accompany the director will be the film’s Corfiot art director Spyros Laskaris, as well as the internationally renowned production manager Jenny Panoutsopoulos.

Ioannis Capodistrias will be played by Michalis Sarantis and his companion will be played by Konstantinos Bibis.

The film will also feature Greek, Russian, French and Swiss actors. Filming will also take place in Russia and Switzerland, while in Greece, apart from Corfu, filming will take place in Nafplion, Mani, Hydra and other selected places.
