CORFU. The well-known anthropologist Avgoustos Sordinas (1927-2021) died on Saturday, having lived a full life, and the Corfu scientific community is the poorer for it.

Professor emeritus at the Ionian University, he was one of the first to work in the new History Department.

Professor emeritus at  Harvard, he was also a professor of pre-classical archaeology at several other American universities.

He was an anthropology researcher and took part in countless research expeditions around the world.

He is considered the Prometheus of anthropological research in the Ionian and his research findings added greater depth to prehistoric reports.

He was a progressive and affable man and a dear friend of Enimerosi, for which he wrote articles and held long discussions with those working there.

An active citizen, he took part in the activities of the democratic movement throughout Corfu's recent history.

Those more knowledgeable will talk about his academic career and his contribution. Those of us at Enimerosi bow down to his memory and offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

The funeral of Avgoustos Sordinas will take place at the 1st Cemetery in Garitsa on Wednesday 15 December.
