CORFU. The signs are good for the upcoming tourist season.

A number of airlines have begun announcing their summer routes and these already include new routes connecting Corfu in 2022.

Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union President Dimitris Roussos has given an update:

"Norwegian will be operating again after having suspended operations, mainly due to the problems with the acquisition of B737 Max aircraft, on which it had been reliant. Helsinki, Copenhagen and Oslo have already been included in its programme from June to the end of August.

Ryanair has added Kiev - this year it had only Odessa - as well as Stockholm and Zagreb. The last two are new bases for the company for the upcoming season and so Corfu was included in the tens of destinations to be served. These new routes will be operational from the beginning of June to the end of September.

Ryanair, like other airlines, is adding to its fleet with 220 new aircraft - either as replacements for older aircraft or as additional planes - thus creating a need to find new destinations and new bases, which will hopefully work in Corfu's favour.

It is certain that, barring the unexpected (how the pandemic develops), a lot of new routes to Corfu will be announced before the beginning of the upcoming tourist season on 27 March."
