LONDON. Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas are in London and have already been holding meetings to promote Corfu and Paxos.
Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is taking part with its own stand in the space allocated to the GNTO at the World Travel Market, which opened in London yesterday. Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas are in London and have already been holding meetings to promote Corfu and Paxos as top tourist destinations.
The Mayor had the opportunity to speak with the Minister for Tourism Vassilis Kikilias and has had a series of meetings with representatives from airlines, travel agencies as well as journalists from travel magazines, blogs and influncers.
Ms. Ydraiou also met with GNTO General Secretary Dimitris Fragakis and updated him on the efforts being made by the Municipality with the limited financial resources it has to promote Corfu as a popular destination. She requested closer cooperation with and support from GNTO so that Corfu, as a leading tourist destination in Greece, can have the promotion it deserves.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor also met with the new director of the GNTO London office Eleni Skarveli and planned the organisation of joint activities to increase tourism from the British market. They also met with a representative from ABTA Matt Turton and discussed increasing collaboration with bilateral agreements to promote Corfu and provide information for all ABTA members.
In this way, local businesses will be able to cooperate directly with the British tourist industry.
Ms. Ydraiou and Mr. Varouchas met with Jet2 Holidays executives John Taylor and Jacob Bramley, who said that they have decided to increase the number of flights to Corfu and updated them on the company's plans.
With its presence at the World Travel Market and the meetings it has arranged, the Municipality is aiming to promote Corfu by highlighting its comparative advantages. The Mayor said, "Our islands aren't just sun and sea - they offer the wonderful Greek summer together with the cuisine, culture, special features and the uniquoe way of life. These all offer a complete experience for the visitor and this is what we want to showcase taking part in this big tourism fair."
It is worth pointing out that this is the first time that Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is taking part in the fair in London without printed brochures. In response to contemporary needs, materials have been digitalised and are available to those interested via QR codes.
In this way, all the information required about Corfu and Paxos can be obtained simply by scanning the QR codes.
