CORFU. The defibrillators purchased by Corfu businesses are gradually being placed to add to the island΄s network.

This decision was due to the sudden death of Stratos Tagatidis from an acute myocardial infarction, which highlighted the problem of the Corfu Ambulance Service's (EKAB) understaffing.

In memory of Stratos, the businesses and the Lawyers' Association have decided to help as much as they can to save a life when such critical incidents occur. As ambulance workers said, defibrillators cannot replace ambulances, but they are an important means of first aid, especially if used by trained people.

Today, EKAB employee Thomas Bandas placed defibrillators purchased by Spyros Simatis at the Police Department Headquarters and the Konstantinoupolis Hotel in Spilia, while a third one will be placed in Anemomylos.

At the same time, the defibrillator purchased by the Corfu Lawyers' Association has already been placed in the Courthouse and in Argyrades – one of which was purchased by Vassilis Kaloudis – while another one will be placed in Kanoni.

The defibrillator purchased by St. Kardamis was also placed in a store in Saroko, but, during the summer months, it will be transferred to Malibu in Dassia.

It should be noted that the machines are placed in places that are as protected as possible, where they can be monitored and/or where there are security cameras, in order to prevent vandalism.

The machines will be checked on a regular basis by the EKAB staff, who will replace batteries and patches when necessary. At the same time, the defibrillators can be found on the digital map of the AED Locator app created by the University Informatics Department to be immediately available to the public via mobile devices.
