CORFU. The North Corfu Civil Protection Service took immediate action and offered its services during the intense and continuous rainfall in the evening of October 10 and today, October 11.

Since the severe weather conditions first started, the four Deputy Mayors, the Civil Protection Supervisor, the machinery, the North Corfu Municipality staff and the Presidents of the communities, were all in the areas that faced serious problems due to the heavy rainfall.

Rural and municipal roads have been repaired and cleaned from a large amount of debris and landslides (within the village of Karousades, towards the beach of Gialos, Karousades, Perithia, Acharavi, Aspiotades, Agios Georgios Pagon, Sinies, Kassiopi, Magoulades, Velonades), streams (Avlaki), bridges, etc., while the restoration of the road towards the Rou Estate in Sinies will commence.

The North Corfu Municipality stated in a press release that “From today and for the next few days, the Municipality's crews will continue to work in order to repair the damage in the areas where problems arise as fast as possible.

It should be noted that, for two weeks now, the Municipality's crews are alerted and offering their services, while giving priority to the best possible protection of the North Corfu Municipality areas.

The North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris had direct supervision – as always in such circumstances – and had given timely and direct orders to all relevant services to be in full alert. He also said that due to the severe weather conditions and their consequences in the citizens’ daily life, the Municipalities’ protection, regarding civil protection issues with the supply of graders and rotating hoeing machines, is required immediately.
