Memorial service at the tomb of Ioannis Capodistrias

There was a memorial service on Monday morning at the tomb of Ioannis Capodistrias in Platytera Monastery on the anniversary of his death.

The first Governor of Modern Greece died on 27 September, 1831, after being shot by the Mavromichalis brothers outside the Church of St. Spyridon in Nafplion.



Present at the service were the Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa; Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Kostas Zorbas; Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Mayor Meropi Ydraiou; Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas; Regional Director of Education Petros Aggelopoulos and Central Corfu Municipal Council President Dimitris Metallinos.

Also present at the service was the well-known film director Yiannis Smaragdis, who is preparing to shoot his new film film "Capodistrias".



The filming will take place in Corfu, Nafplion, Aegina, Hydra, Mani, Poros, Sounion and Epidavros as well as Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland and St. Petersburg in Russia, where Capodistrias was sworn in as Foreign Minister by Tsar Alexander I.
