CORFU. Already the online platform is not accepting appointment bookings for after 10 September.
The Mega Vaccination Centres throughout Greece will soon be closing and the centre in Corfu is expected to close on 30 September.
The Deputy Director at the Corfu centre Aggelos Spyrou confirmed the fact to Enimerosi and already the online platform is not accepting appointment bookings at the National Sports Centre for after 10 September.
According to Mr. Spyrou, appointments today and tomorrow are for first vaccination shots and after that appointments are mainly for second shots.
He pointed out that vaccinations will continue at the other public facilities and, as the government has announced, the vaccination of children over 12 can now be done by paediatricians at their private surgeries.
The aim of the Mega Vaccination Centre
The Mega Vaccination Centre in Corfu opened on 31 May with a view to speeding up the vaccination rate with the Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine. The Ministry's aim was to administer 1,000 jabs a day over 40 days.
However, because the numbers coming to the centre began to drop substantially, it was decided to bring the hospital's Pfizer stream to the Mega centre in order to increase the vaccination rate.
At this time, the number of vaccinations being administered daily at the National Sports Centre, where the Mega Centre is housed, is extremely low. However, a significant percentage of the population have been vaccinated - according to the emvolio.gov.gr online platform, to date 65,915 have had the first shot and 63,111 have been completely vaccinated.
