CORFU. DIADEYAK President Meropi Ydraiou announced today at a press conference that water supply projects have been included in the “Antonis Tritsis” programme.
Corfu is to receive funding of €4,668,839 to address the emergency needs of the water supply network throughout the island.
The funding is for eight sub-projects:
(a) “Enhancement of Ipsos and Barbati Beach water supply from Paliochorafa boreholes”. This sub-project concerns the construction of a pipeline to improve conditions and reinforce the water supply to the areas of Kato Korakiana, Ipsos Beach, Agios Markos and Barbati, which have a lot of tourists and suffer from shortages during the summer months when they are flooded with tourists. The project will also replace and increase the inadequate pipelines in the area of Kato Korakiana, Dassia and Agios Markos.
(b) “Replacement of Alykes Potamos Local Water Supply Network”. This sub-project involves the replacement of the existing water supply pipeline in the area of Alykes Potamos, because the existing pipeline is small and is unable to meet the area’s increased water supply needs. It is old, has been eroded in large parts, leaks frequently and creates further problems of water shortage in the area. A total of 1,850m of pipeline will be replaced.
(c) “Supply, installation and operation of a smart system for remote control and recording of Corfu Town water meters using IOT (Internet of Things) technologies”. This will provide for the installation of 3,575 modern systems for quantitative management and remote recording of water meter readings of Corfu Town's local water supply network (8,937 inhabitants).
(d) “Exploratory drillings as part of the implementation of North Corfu hydrogeological study”. With this sub-project a total of 16 exploratory drillings will take place following hydrogeological mappings and electrical geophysical prospecting methods in Northwest Corfu and Northeast Corfu and in the area of Agioi Deka.
(e) “Replacement of South Corfu Local Water Supply Networks”. The subject of this sub-project is the replacement of a total of 12,650m of existing water supply pipes in the areas of Agios Georgios, Argyrades and Perivoli. The need to replace these pipes is due to the fact that they are old and have frequent blockages.
(f) “Replacement of North Corfu Local Water Supply Networks”. The subject of this sub-project is the replacement of a total of 9,720m of existing water supply pipes in the areas of Acharavi and Kassiopi. The need to replace these pipes is due to the fact that they are old and have frequent blockages.
(g) “Archaeological inspections and research”.
(h) “Electricity supply costs”.
