CORFU. Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 July, 11:00-14:00

This weekend, 3-4 July, the Capodistrias Museum is hosting in its Garden the interactive performance of the actress, theatrologist and drama teacher, Maria Papagiannaki, entitled "Se yon istwa men ansanm - This is a story of solidarity".

The interactive performance with Maria Papagiannaki performing will take place
continuously from 11:00 to 14:00 in the Museum Garden. The play refers to the story of solidarity between revolutionary Greece and revolutionary Haiti. The two
countries seem to be linked by a similar enslavement history and a strong need for independence and freedom. The story of solidarity between the two countries is honoured in this performance through the creation of a powerful symbol, an allied flag.

Maria Papagiannaki focuses on the story of the flags of the two countries, which as powerful symbols define independence and unity. It is a participatory visual action, which creates connections between history and contemporary art. It will unfold the story of the two countries, the similarities they present in their struggle for independence and the emotional bond that unites them, which was created in a climate of solidarity in times of revolutions. The performance attempts to highlight this aspect with the participation of the audience, who will contribute to the creation of this allied flag of the two countries.

The play “Se yon istwa men ansanm - This is a story of solidarity” is Maria Papagiannaki’s thesis in the postgraduate programme of the Theatre Studies Department of the University of the Peloponnese, which is participating in the anniversary exhibition “Haiti – Greece 1821-2021: Journey to Freedom”, under the artistic direction of Leda Papaconstantinou, in August 2021, at Spetses Church Museum.

Maria Papagiannaki is an actress, theatrologist and drama teacher. She was born in 1991 in Thessaloniki. She graduated from the School of Drama of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and she has worked as an actor since 2011 in continuous cooperation with the NόVan Theatre Group in performances for both children and adults. As a theatrologist she participated in productions of the adult workshops of the NoVan Theatre Lab team, while being a drama teacher since 2016 she gained experience with groups of children from pre-school to teen age.
