CORFU. Pfizer vaccination streams have now been transferred to the Mega vaccination centre.

In order to take the pressure off the health centres in Corfu Town and Agios Markos as well as the hospital, the Pfizer streams from there have been moved top the Mega vaccination centre.

For the initial period of time after the Mega had opened there was a very low number of people coming and, until just recently, it was well below the Health Ministry's target with only 70 - 100 vaccinations on average per day.

It had been the Ministry's initial decision to have only the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Mega vaccination centre but there was a very low takeup from the public. It was then decided to have only the Pfizer vaccine and all the Pfizer streams from the hospital were transferred there.

The Director of the Mega centre told Enimerosi that there are now around 800 appointments per day on average and so the centre will be able to fulfil the purpose for which it was created.

Deputy Regional Governor for Health Kostas Zorbas told Enimerosi, "It is estimated that it will continue operating for another month."

AstraZeneca

The AstraZeneca vaccine is still being administered at Lefkimmi Health Centre, Agios Markos Health Centre for second shots and the hospital for second shots. The hospital also has a Johnson & Johnson stream.
