CORFU. The Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine is being discontinued at the Mega vaccination centre due to the low takeup.

From tomorrow, Wednesday, only the Pfizer vaccine will be administered in the vaccination streams at the centre in an effort to speed up the vaccination rate and achieve the required level of immunity.

With the exception of the first day, when there were 550 vaccinations, the number of people coming to the Mega vaccination centre every day has been much lower than the target of 1,000 a day.

From tomorrow members of the public will be able to get the Pfizer vaccination and Deputy Director Aggelos Spyrou said that the online platform will be ready to accept bookings shortly.

A team from the British Embassy recently visited the Mega vaccination centre and were shown the facilities to see for themselves how well-organised it was. "We updated them on the number of vaccinations on the island," said Mr. Spyrou, "and assured them that Corfu is a safe tourist destination for visitors."

According to official data, 75,902 have been vaccinated in Corfu (+ 1,151 on 14/6) - 48,878 have had one shot (+ 327 on 14/6) and 33,999 have been completely vaccinated (+ 936 on 14/6).
