CORFU. The situation in Temploni and Mesorachia, Lefkimmi is disheartening.
The Managing Director of the new Ionian Islands Solid Waste Management Organisation (FODSA) Theodoros Kardaris told Enimerosi that tthree Corfu Municipalities and FODSA are working together towards the removal of waste from the location in Temploni where the Integrated Waste Management Facility is expected to be constructed.
Although the new organisation is not saying how the waste will be removed, the possibility of taking it off the island is being looked into.
The situation is disheartening with piles of waste bales lying around. Transportation of waste to Kozani is ongoing but there's a long way to go before all the bales can be removed.
In Mesorachia, Lefkimmi, although funding has been assured (€900,000 to the Ionian Islands Regional Administration from the Ministry of the Interior) for the bales with waste residue that have been there since 2018, the work has not yet been contracted out.
