CORFU. Passengers will not wander around individually but will take part in guided group tours.
The cruise ship Costa Luminosa, belonging to Carnival Corporation, docked at Corfu Port early this morning - the first of the season following a long period with no activity due to the pandemic.
The week-long cruise of the Costa Luminosa set off from Trieste and includes visits to Bari, Corfu, Athens, Mykonos and Katakolo/Olympia.
There are approximately 580 passengers on board, the majority of whom are Italian along with French and Britons - either fully-vaccinated or having taken a PCR test.
All the passengers movements are in line with the company's strict safety protocols, using the 'bubble' system as the cruise companies did last year as well. Thus, passengers will only take part in organised group visits to specific sites.
According to the Corfu Port Authority managing director, the protocols will later be reviewed, possibly in July, depending on how much immunity has been built up.
The next two cruise ships will be in Corfu on Sunday, one of which will be using the island as a home port, which it is believed will bring more income to the local economy as there will be more overnight stays.
"After June, when we will have built up greater immunity, there will be a larger number of arrivals at the port," Mr. Zervopoulos told Enimerosi. "We believe that from July onwards things will be much busier."
