LONDON. 12 countries are included in the travel ΄green list΄ announced by the UK Transport Minister today.

The UK government has announced its travel green, amber and red lists of countries.

France, Greece, Spain and Italy are amongst the countries that are on the amber list when foreign travel from England is opened up again on 17 May.

The Ministry of Transport announced which countries are on the red list with the strictest measures when travellers return and which are on the green list, which has the 'lightest' measures.

The criteria for the traffic light system are: coronavirus infection rates, reliability of data, prevalence of “variants of concern,” genomic sequencing capability, vaccine roll-out and passengers connecting through key hubs.

The 12 countries on the Green List:

Ascension Island
Australia
Brunei
Falkland Islands
Gibraltar
Israel
New Zealand
Portugal
Tristan da Cunha
St Helena
Singapore
South Georgia
South Sandwich Islands

Those travelling to countries on the green list still have to take a Covid test up to 72 hours before returning and a PCR test on or before day two of their arrival in England.

The list will be reviewed every three weeks, and countries can be added or removed at short notice. It is expected that popular holiday destinations such as Spain, France and Greece could be added to the list by the end of June, when the vaccination programme has progressed.

At the moment, the requirements for the green, amber and red lists are as follows:
