ATHENS. The Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Akis Skertsos spoke on Mega TV on Saturday morning.

The Undersecretary talked about the opening of shops and self-tests.

He said, "The strategy to be implemented from the beginning of April is for controlled opening of shops, society and education. The free tests will allow us to do this." He explained that the tests are validated and effective and members of the public will be able to check their health.

"The good news is that the numbers of cases and hospital admissions are stabilising and de-escalating and the number of discharges from hospital is increasing," he added.

"Together with the self-tests it appears that retail shops and educational institutions will be able to open at the beginning of April," said Mr. Skertsos and and admitted that the restrictive measures need to be lifted so that the economy can breathe again and people's psychology is lifted.

It is too early to talk about movement between municipalities and this will be discussed once the first level of immunity has been achieved through vaccination.

The improvement in the weather is another beneficial factor. "This is why we are lifting restrictions on outdoor activities," said the Undersecretary and added that outdoor catering establishments will be opening in April.

"Self-tests will be available in April and May and from June onwards they will not be as necessary due to the increase in the number of vaccinations. If necessary, however, they will be continued."
