Greek President arrives in Othoni

OTHONI. The President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou has arrived in Othoni.

The Deputy Defence Minister Alkiviades Stefanis is also visiting the island. Ms. Sakellaropoulou has come to the island to be present at the vaccination of islanders and is accompanied by the 6th Health District Director Yiannis Karvelis and the Director of Corfu General Hospital Leonidas Roubatis.

The President was welcomed by Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, Deputy Governor Kostas Zorbas, Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas and others.

The vaccination of the Diapontia Islands residents began on Sunday morning when a team from EODY arrived in Mathraki with a Coastguard vessel. They continued in Erikoussa and are completing the vaccinations in Othoni today in the presence of the Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

The President went first of all to the island's vaccination centre and then went to lay a wreath at the memorial for the members of the 'Proteus' submarine crew who heroically lost their lives.

Ms. Sakellaropoulou is expected to also go to Erikoussa, where she will visit the island's primary school.
