CORFU. The slow rate is attributed to the delay in the provision of vaccines - a concern for many European countries.

Less than 2,000 people have been vaccinated in Corfu since vaccination began in Greece on 28 December. The programme didn't begin here until 11 January as Corfu Hospital was on the last list of health facilities for vaccination of employees.

To date a total of 1,745 people in Corfu have been vaccinated. On Tuesday there were 186 and, as health service sources told Enimerosi, at this rate it will take a long time to reach a level of immunity in the community which will allow freedom from restrictive measures.

The slow rate is attributed to the delay in the provision of vaccines - a concern for many European countries. Italy has already said that it will seek legal remedies against the companies producing the vaccines for not keeping to the distribution agreement.

Pharmacists

On Monday vaccination of pharmacists in Corfu began and, according to a statement from their Association, the first member to be innoculated was Konstantinos Vlachos (see photo) at 09:45 on Monday 25th.

To date about 20% of members have been vaccinated and it is believed that the majority of members will have been vaccinated by the end of the month. The vast majority of Corfu pharmacists have stated that they want to be vaccinated - part of the members' efforts to fight the pandemic in the proper way.

Right from the beginning of the health crisis the pharmacies in Corfu have set an example to all businesses in correct and safe service for customers.

According to the Association's statement, assistant pharmacists and other employees will soon be vaccinated so as to ensure that pharmacies and their staff are properly protected.
