MADRID. "There will be no prohibition and no problem for someone to visit our country whether they have been vaccinated or not. Vaccination will not be a prerequisite," the Tourism Minister told ERT1 from Madrid.

Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis is in Madrid for the UNWTO Global Tourism Crisis Committee meeting.

Mr. Theoharis said, "We need to focus on those that won't be vaccinated. This is the best way to protect Greek citizens. The tests that we will have available will be used at the country's entry points as well as in other areas with the highest risk - that is where we will concentrate our testing."

"It is an excellent opportunity here in Madrid at the Global Tourism Crisis Committee meeting for me, as Chair of the Technical Group, to present our proposals - especially those of PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis to use the vaccination in order to improve how people travel," said the Minister.

According to Mr. Theoharis, "The Prime Minister brought this up now as we have seen how much time discussions take in the EU. That is why we have started the discussion now in order to be able to come to a decision before the tourist season begins. We need to agree on these common rules and on the coordination that is necessary to have a successful tourism season. I can assure you that this year's season will be better than 2020."
